WaterWalks: Classroom by the Water

For our mission to get people to think about the water in their environment, we also focus on education, especially groups 6, 7 and 8 of elementary school. For this purpose, we are creating a Classroom on the Water in September!

For the lessons we offer from WaterWalks, we have entered into a partnership with various parties who sit by the water or carry out their activities on the water. We have, linked to the core objectives, made a lesson program with them in which water is central and in which the knowledge and skills of our partners form the basis of the lesson. As a school, you may choose which lesson you would like to follow with your group(s).

Pavilion by the water

At Pavilion on the Water (Charlois) we look at water through the eyes of writer Wessel Kootwijk, illustrator Pia van den Beuken and urban anthropologist Renée Rooijmans. They take their adventurous children's book "Simma van de Zee" as a starting point in which a girl crosses the ocean on her own. In the workshop the students make their own mini book. The Pavilion is easily accessible by public transport (streetcar 2).

Possible dates:
Tuesday, September 20, Friday, September 23, Tuesday, October 4
Time blocks: 9.00 - 10.30 am / 11.00 - 12.30 pm / 13.00 - 14.30 pm (can be adjusted by mutual agreement!)
Maximum group size: 48 students (3 subject teachers with 3 workshops)

Island of Brienenoord

On the Eiland van Brienenoord we dive into nature and discover the tidal park. Together with artists and builders Maurice Meewisse, Lío Spinnewijn, and Víctor Santamarina, students will create their own mini tidal park, design an exciting scavenger hunt, or make molds and prints with clay from the river.

Possible dates:
Tuesday, September 20, Wednesday, September 21, Friday, October 7, Friday, October 14
Time blocks: 9.00 - 10.30 am / 11.00 - 12.30 pm / 13.00 - 14.30 pm (can be adjusted by mutual agreement!)

The WaterWalks app is used in different ways in the lesson. Sometimes as a source for information and always as a means of reporting on the assignments in class. We post pictures and videos of the environment, objects, etc. No pictures of the students themselves! We have phones of our own to use, so it is not necessary to install the app on phones of children or teachers, but of course it is allowed! An account is only needed to share something yourself. Without an account, all posts from others can be seen on the Maas map in the app.
